Today we have been practicing the angles and shots from some of the scenes on our storyboard. So far we have done up to the corridor scene trying out mid shots and long shots as well as changing the angle of where the shot is coming from. We will ensure continuity stays with our filming.

Practicing camera shots and angles
The first shot we did was a close up. This helps to capture a person's emotions and only features the character's head and shoulders. This can also be used in techniques such as eyeline match.

Next is our establishing shot. These are used to help set a scene for our audience so they know the general location.

Extreme close ups are used to capture important detail and focus on a particular subject.
Long shots can be used to capture a character at distance. Their entire body should be able to fit into the shot for it to be classed as a long shot. The character is dominated by their surroundings.
We used a low angle shot to show dominance or power over the subject as it makes the character to appear bigger than they actually are.
A shot/reverse shot can be used to help show conversation between two people. It also helps to show a character's reaction to a line said by the other.

Tilt shots are used to show speed and movement as well as leaving the viewer unsettled.

Preliminary Task - Engaging in conversation
We have made a plan for what is going to happen in our preliminary task. I'm working with Rae and Lydia for a short film involving walking through a door and engaging in conversation. I have done a sketch of a more detailed version to what will happen, the camera angles and where cuts will occur. Rae will be doing the majority of the camera work with Lydia filming the corridor scene. Apart from that, me and Lydia will be acting in the short film.
The short film will include match on action, where we will ensure that clothing, hair, scenery etc will stay the same so that the viewer doesn't zoom out of the reality of the situation. We have ensured that the use of shot/reverse shots will be included and the 180-degree rule will be abided by.

Introduction
Hi, my name is Ben and this is my blog for my AS Media Studies!
I have never taken media before but have decided to study it as it seems to be a subject that 'catches my eye' as well as me having a taste for making films through filming and editing. I am a film fanatic consisting of favourites such as Pulp Fiction, Reservoir Dogs, Donnie Darko, and many more! I love analysing the techniques and methods used in film and the trickery inside them to deceive the viewer in a variety of intelligent ways. Although I don't know everything about it I am keen to learn as much as possible. I feel that the process of making the films trailer will be challenging yet enjoyable.
I have a deep love for late 80's and 90's music including work from some of the bests such as The Stone Roses and The Smiths as well as Led Zeppelin and Fleetwood Mac. As well as enjoying old music I am passionate about new rock and indie-rock music from bands such as Slaves and Drenge but also including Arctic Monkeys and Jake Bugg. I am passionate about 86' to 90' lifestyle and how people dressed such as wearing Harrington jackets and Doc Marten boots.
I am also in a two piece band playing the drums where the second person is lead singer and lead guitarist. We enjoy playing music similar to what we listen to as said before - rock and indie-rock music.
